Currently brewing

Three single-origin coffees rotating on our bar this season — each one traceable to the woman who grew it, with tasting notes that reflect her processing choices.

Colombia · Luz Helena

Armenia, Quindío · Washed · Castillo varietal

Our bestselling everyday coffee. Grown by Luz Helena Salazar at 1,400m and washed using a process she refined over fifteen years. Mandarin sweetness, milk chocolate body, panela finish — built for filter, espresso and stovetop alike.

Luz Helena · Peach Co-ferment

Quindío · 30h anaerobic with fresh peaches · Limited lot

An experimental processing innovation from the same producer. Whole peaches sit with the cherries during a 30-hour anaerobic fermentation, then dry on raised beds. The result: vivid stone fruit, nectarine, and a sugar cane finish that lingers.

Sumatra · Women's Group

North Sumatra, Indonesia · Wet-hulled · Women's cooperative

Sourced from a cooperative of 200+ female smallholders using the traditional Giling Basah wet-hulling method. Smoked pineapple on the nose, tamarind and orange acidity, finishing with dark chocolate. A coffee with story and grip.

How we source

Direct relationships

We buy every kilo of green coffee directly from the women who grow it — no broker, no anonymous lot. That means premium prices paid at origin, multi-year partnerships with farms like Maracay (Colombia) and Sumatra Women's Group, and full traceability you can read on every bag.

Female-led from farm to cup

Specialty coffee is a 25-million-people industry and women do 70% of the field work — yet they own only 15% of the farms. Every coffee on our menu comes from a woman-led producer or cooperative. Our roasters and head baristas in Oxford are women too. It's not a campaign; it's the whole supply chain.

Brewed to order, shipped fresh

We don't pre-brew weeks in advance. Beans rest 7–14 days post-roast for peak flavour, then ship within 48 hours of your order — Mon to Sat, tracked across the UK. Free shipping over £40, dispatched from our Oxford roastery in compostable kraft packaging.

What makes a coffee "specialty"?

Three things separate specialty coffee from everything else on a supermarket shelf — and they're worth understanding before you choose your next bag.

The 80-point threshold

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) defines "specialty" as any green coffee that scores 80+ out of 100 on its cupping scale. Below 80 is commercial-grade. Every Tree Artisan lot scores between 85 and 88 — independently cupped by SCA-certified Q-graders before we commit to the buy.

Single-origin vs blend

Every coffee on our menu is single-origin: one farm, one region, one harvest. You taste the actual terroir — the altitude, the soil, the processing method the producer chose. No anonymous mixing of leftover lots to hit a price point. The trade-off: you get nuance instead of consistency, and each bag has a story.

The freshness rule

Specialty coffee peaks 7 to 21 days after roasting and starts going flat after 30. That's why supermarket beans (roasted months ago, sitting in warehouses) can never deliver real specialty cup. We batch-roast weekly and dispatch within 48 hours of your order — your bag arrives well inside the peak window.

Coffee is more than a beverage — it's a daily act of empowerment.

Our Story

Tree Artisan Cafe was founded in Oxford in 2020 as a celebration of women in specialty coffee. From producers to baristas, every cup we serve traces back to skilled women who shape the supply chain with care and precision.

We work directly with single-origin farms in Colombia, Sumatra and Ethiopia, prioritising traceability, fair pricing and sustainable practices — from raised beds and anaerobic fermentation to community savings funds that break debt cycles.
